Yakuza Kiwami Story Summary and Timeline Overview
In 1995, Kazuma Kiryu, a promising young member of the Dojima Family under the Tojo Clan, takes responsibility for the murder committed by his best friend, Akira Nishikiyama, and is sentenced to prison.
After serving ten years behind bars while carrying the stigma of being a "patricide" who killed his own boss, Kiryu returns to Kamurocho in 2005. Waiting for him is a city that has changed beyond recognition—and a former friend who is no longer the man he once knew.
Shortly after his release, Kiryu becomes entangled in the disappearance of 10 billion yen from the Tojo Clan's treasury. Amid the chaos, he encounters Haruka Sawamura, a lonely young girl searching for the truth about her birth.
When Kiryu discovers that Haruka is the key to uncovering the mystery behind the missing fortune, he resolves to protect her at all costs. His investigation gradually exposes a massive conspiracy involving corrupt politician Kyōhei Jingū and powerful forces operating on a national scale.
Following the death of his mentor Shintaro Kazama and the sacrifices of many allies, Kiryu ultimately faces his former "brother," Akira Nishikiyama, in a climactic battle atop Millennium Tower.
After a brutal fight fueled by pride, regret, and the bonds they once shared, Kiryu commits himself to protecting Haruka and carrying on. This marks the beginning of the legend that would later earn him the title of the "Dragon of Dojima."
